Hmmm, mysterious. There are times when I do not really understand what
Git is doing. This should not have happened. Maybe you had commits on
your local copy that weren’t upstream, and Git had problems comparing
them. The excessive merge conflicts sound like an artifact of the coding
style merges (brrr). Let’s hope the problem is gone now.

I don’t know. This is usually something mail clients should do
automatically; at least I know that Thunderbird, Claws-Mail and Gnus (my
client) do this. Maybe someone else from the list can help? At least
Gmail with its good interface should support that somewhere...
