Have you tried the game called, Super Maio Bros. X?

If not, you should download it, it is free.  While it is basically a
community created Mario game, with all original characters, animations and
so on.. What I'd like you to look at is the level editor.

It works amazingly well.  The grid system for placing objects and blocks is
very good too.

That aside.  Have you ever thought to do a complete overhaul on SMC?
Make all new graphics, a new character, or characters?
For me, SMC is missing the 'cute' factor.

Just some random thoughts.
