The problem is:
1) I wasn't setting the working directory for the run option in QT Creator before, causing it to start from the wrong install directory and not find the share directory
2) After setting it now, QT Creator still seems to be ignoring it.  It may be a bug in QT Creator.  Maybe I'd be better off just finding another IDE rather than using/researching this problematic thing.
