Re: [tsc-devel] Moinmoin wiki to Redmine wiki progress

Thank you for your ongoing efforts, xet7.

I think before you start looking at conversion of issue tickets, let
first everyone evaluate Fossil. The decision which project management
software is to be used must be made by the team as a whole, and that
requires the team members to look at the different options
available. The same goes for theming; do not place too much effort into
it while it is not finally decided to be used. It’d be sad to see your
effort lost.

Letsencrypt is currently in the testing phase, and I don’t think we
should use our “production” (i.e. live important online site) for
testing purposes, so it’s too early for that currently.

The server upgrade is important, but Wheezy is not out of support
yet. So upgrading is not urgent, but must definitely be on our
plan. Likewise is the migration of our project management system not
a pressing issue, and can be done safely after the OS upgrade. As for
backups, please check with sydney who is keeping all alexandria
backups.

Regarding moinmoin replacement, I have to admit that the current
situation is annoying. However, I think the SFML efforts are more
important. I mentioned to datahead in IRC yesterday (by PM) that it is
possible to administer a project to death. That is, if we devote our
limited time all into the project administration stuff, the game itself
stands still, which is not good. You’ve done a great amount of work on
the administration, but I think now it’s time to move the game itself
forward, and when we’ve done that, we can come back to the
administrative issues again. That is, I’d suggest to work on the SFML
port for now. If you take a look at the tracker, I opened several new,
rather small issues related to it, so you might want to start by porting
something like crates over to SFML or so.

That’s only my suggestion, though. You can of course first upgrade
alexandria and migrate the wiki, but switching the entire project
management software over is not possible quickly because we need to
first hear the opinions of multiple team members. You’re blocked at this
point by a nontechnical issue, and as we all know, reaching a larger
number of team members can take a while. Given my other thoughts above,
I deem it more useful to work on the SFML port for the moment, and in
parallel ask the team to review the project management system options
such that when the SFML work is finished, we have overcome the
nontechnical issue and can start with the technical migration of the
project data.

That’s FluXy’s commits on old SMC. Looks as if Fossil got it the wrong
way round? Shouldn’t it rather display commits somewhere from the last
weeks/months?

Vale,
